Historical Football Kits

Current Research Projects

12 December 2008: According to Seagulls - The Story of Brighton & Hove Albion by Tim Carder and Roger Harris (1993), Brighton & Hove Albion wore "fisherman's blue" shirts in 1901. Although I have not seen the book, I am told that a photograph suggests the first shirts were pale but appear much darker in 1903-04. The only reference I have been able to find to "fisherman's blue" suggests that it is a shade of navy blue - is it possible the pale shirts in the 1901-02 picture are very faded navy? To complicate matters, in John Vinnicombe's book, Albion - An Illustrated History (1978) the author states that the team's colours were changed from green to blue and white striped shirts but gives no references or dates. If you can help us unravel this particular puzzle, please get in touch.

2 December 2008: Upgrading the Scottish section is now two-thirds complete. We would welcome old team photographs that would enhance each club page (the older the better). Please note that I do not need pictures for any SPL clubs but would be pleased to receive suitable images of lesser teams, particularly those who have left the SFL. Please provide details of sources and copyright status.

2 Sept 2008: Information on Aldershot Town 1996-97 (sponsors details). We also have significant gaps for the following clubs: Cheltenham Town 1908-1937, 1982-85: Dagenham & Redbridge 1992-2001 - information about the Daggers' predecessor clubs, Ilford, Leytonstone, Walthamstow Avenue and Redbridge Forest would be welcome.
