The Scottish Football League 1914 - 1915

This was the last season in which two divisions operated under the rules established in 1893, although the First Division had gradually been expanded from 10 to 20 teams. At the end of the season the Second Division was suspended and the members formed two regional competitions, the Eastern and Western Leagues. The First Division continued throughout the Great War although the northern clubs, Aberdeen, Dundee and Raith Rovers were persuaded to withdraw to ease the difficulties of travel for the remaining clubs from the central belt. The Second Division clubs were not represented at the Scottish League AGM in 1918 and it seems likely that their membership had been dropped at this time. The Second Division was formally dropped in 1920, although it had not operated since 1915.
